Sahel food crisis looms (part 3 of 5)
Chad, February 2012: Food shortages in Africa’s Sahel belt are threatening 1 million under-five children – including more than 100,000 in Chad – with severe malnutrition. Conflict is exacerbating these risks. UNICEF is requesting US$65.7 million to support initial life-saving responses. A health worker evaluates a child for signs of malnutrition, in a camp for people displaced by conflict, in Sila Region. Photograph made in March 2011.
